FAQ
What does an in-home family photography session look like?
Every in-home session is personalized to your stage of life. Whether you are preparing a nursery, spending a slow morning together, or simply hanging out as a family, the session is designed to reflect your real life.
I will guide you with gentle prompts and direction when needed, such as where to stand, where to look, or how to position yourself. At the same time, I leave room for candid moments to unfold naturally. The result is a blend of documentary-style and lightly guided images that feel honest and true to you.
What should I expect during a newborn or infant session?
Newborn sessions are scheduled around a time when your baby is typically happiest. On the day of your session, we will check in and adjust based on how everyone is feeling.
If your baby needs extra time, breaks, or even a reschedule, that is completely okay. My priority is creating a calm and flexible environment so we can capture meaningful moments without stress.
What if my kids are not cooperating during the session?
That is completely normal and expected. Instead of forcing poses, we follow your child’s lead.
If your child would rather play with toys than sit for photos, we will lean into that. You might end up playing on the floor together while I document those genuine interactions. These moments often create the most meaningful images, full of personality and connection.
What should we wear for our session?
I provide guidance on outfits to help everything feel cohesive and timeless. I typically recommend neutral tones, soft textures, and pieces that feel comfortable and true to your style.
The goal is to complement your home and keep the focus on connection.
Where in my home will the session take place?
We will use areas of your home with the best natural light, such as living rooms, bedrooms, or nurseries.
You do not need a perfectly styled home. Real life is welcome. I can also guide you on simple ways to prepare your space.
Do I need a perfectly clean house for an in-home session?
Not at all. Your home does not need to look perfect.
I recommend light tidying in the areas we will use, but lived-in spaces add character and authenticity to your photos.
How long does a session last?
Most in-home family and newborn photography sessions last about 60 to 90 minutes. This allows time for a relaxed pace and breaks if needed.
Do you offer film photography as well as digital?
Yes. I incorporate both digital and 35mm film photography into my sessions.
Film adds a timeless quality that pairs beautifully with digital images, giving you a well-rounded gallery.
When will we receive our photos?
Your final gallery is typically delivered within a few weeks after your session. Each image is carefully edited to reflect your story.
Will you share my photos on your website or social media?
I will always ask for your permission before sharing any images.
Your privacy and comfort are very important. If you prefer to keep your photos private, I fully respect that.
Do you travel for sessions outside of Metro Detroit?
Yes. I am a Michigan photographer based in Clarkston and serve the Metro Detroit area. Travel outside this area may be available upon request.
How do I book a session?
You can reach out through my contact form to start the booking process. From there, we will discuss your vision, choose a date, and begin planning.
What makes in-home photography different from a studio session?
In-home photography focuses on comfort, familiarity, and storytelling. Your home becomes the backdrop, which allows for more natural interactions and meaningful images.
