About Courtney Blackett Photography

The lady running down the street in a flowy dress? Yep—that’s me. I’m Courtney, a Metro Detroit photographer based in Clarkston, Michigan, with over eight years of experience capturing honest, meaningful moments.

How It Started

I first picked up a camera in junior high for yearbook class—and never wanted to give it back. After saving up babysitting money for my first camera, that early curiosity turned into something much bigger.

Today, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from Oakland University and spend my days documenting people in all seasons of life.

What I Photograph

I specialize in in-home family photography, newborn sessions, senior portraits, maternity, and branding photography.

I’m most drawn to photographing people where they feel most like themselves—at home. As an in-home family photographer, I focus on capturing real moments as they naturally unfold: the quiet, the chaos, and everything in between.

Whether I’m using digital or my 35mm film camera, I incorporate both modern and analog photography techniques to create images that feel timeless and true to you.

My Approach

My approach is relaxed and personal. I’ll guide you through outfit choices, locations, and all the small details so your session feels easy and comfortable.

From planning to final delivery, I’m there every step of the way—helping you feel confident in front of the camera while creating natural, vibrant, and story-driven images.

Why It Matters

My childhood bedroom walls were painted pink. I remember the feel of wood floors under my bare feet, a drum set in the corner I never quite learned to play, and the everyday details that didn’t seem important at the time—but mean everything now.

Those spaces have changed, like they always do. And I’ve found myself wishing there were more photographs to hold onto those moments.

That’s why I do this.

I want to create photos you can keep—images you tuck into wallets, pass between friends, and come back to years from now. The kind that feel lived in and loved.

Because life moves quickly. Babies become toddlers. Cribs become beds. Picture books are replaced with chapter books.

These moments deserve to be remembered.

A Little More About Me

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me reading, rollerskating, or exploring new coffee shops around the Midwest.

Let’s Work Together

If you’re looking for a Michigan photographer who values storytelling over perfection—someone who welcomes the mess and finds beauty in it—I’d love to work with you.

Messes are welcome. Life is welcome.
